Therapeutic riding provides an opportunity for students with disabilities to experience the power of movement in a safe and fun way. The benefits are numerous. The student is positioned atop a horse for input of movement and activity. While on the horse, students can be involved in therapeutic activities to promote gross and fine motor skills, cognitive and social skills. The horse becomes the unique tool used by the teacher to engage the student in various ways in the awesome and unique environment of the great outdoors, which provides necessary sensory input.
